Form 9, Progymnasium Altshausen

English abstract

I am Julia Schmid, a 15-year old girl from Germany. I am pupil at Progymnasium Altshausen. I took part in the Erasmus+ programme, which is funded by the European Union. Our project deals with career orientation, and it is called “Fit for Job”. The Erasmus+ project was the perfect opportunity for me to find out more about what kind of job I will do later on in my life.

In class 9 we did tests about external- and self-evaluation and career tests.  I have found out that I am a creative person with a lots of ideas and that I am good at doing social work and helping other people. Considering my creative skills, my absolutely dream job is to become  an information designer. I love working with new media and new computer programmes like Photoshop. A very important point in my career orientation was the work placement I did at a pharmacy. I didn’t like it so much because it was too non-creative for me. I had to choose the company for the work experience placement on my own, and I also had to apply for the placement myself, so I learnt a lot in this way.

One of the main goals of the Erasmus+ project is to find out what other schools in other countries do for their career orientation.  I was in Riga, the main city of Latvia,  for one week. I stayed there from the 4th till the 9th of April. There I visited a few museums, a university and Latvia’s forest. The main topic of this week was the forest industry of Latvia. Around 50% of the Latvian area is forest. This is the reason why Latvia has a very big forest industry. We did a sightseeing tour around old Riga, where we saw the most important sights and places, which were very nice and interesting, too. Another day, we were at the University of Natural Sciences of Latvia in Riga. There I took part in the biology-tour around the university. One evening, our group had a cultural evening with presentations and food from each of the three countries. We also were at Ogre in the Forest Research Institute called Silava, and we visited the National Botanic Garden of Latvia in Salaspils, where we did a quiz about plants. Our tour went on to the Daugava Museum in Riga. The Daugava is a river in Latvia. We were also in Mezaparks, in a museum about wood and trees. On the last day, we formed groups and prepared short presentations about the things that happened during that week. After that, a career consultant, Ieva Randere, told us about jobs and possible careers. Our career orientation week in Latvia finished after the dinner on Friday evening. The farewell was not easy because we have made new friends there.

For me the Erasmus+ week was very funny and I have learned new things about studying and new jobs. I have also made new friends from Latvia and Italy, which is also very positive. Another very good aspect of the week is that I  trained my language skills much better than in Germany, as we had been talking English all the time. In my opinion, the Erasmus+ project is a really good and helpful project for career orientation.

Form 10, Progymnasium Altshausen

English abstract

I´m Anna Schlichte and I´m a 14-year old girl in class 9 at the German school Progymnasium Altshausen. I decided to participate in the Erasmus+ programme when I was in class 8. Now I'd like to summarize my German report in English and tell you some things about me. I play theatre in a theatre group and therefore some of my qualities are creativity, team spirit and self-confidence. I´m playing a lot of instruments so I´m good at music. I did some competence tests so, I found out that I´m also good at things like reading a text fast and understanding it. I like sailing, diving and skiing which show my courage and interest for challenging things.
My dream jobs are to become a lector or a music teacher. As a music teacher you have to study at a university, for being a lector not. I´m very content with the professional orientation at my school but it would be interesting to get to know something about studying at a university, too. I liked my exchange week very much. It was very interesting. I was with a boy from Germany in one family. Our exchange student was very nice and her mum spoke German perfectly.
The food in Latvia was not so different to the food in Germany. For breakfast they also had cereals and bread with cheese, chocolate cream and other stuff like that. The only exception was on the day we left: we got pancakes. The school in Latvia is very different. For example, the pupils have to change the room after each lesson, and they leave their jackets at a guarded wardrobe before the lessons. The pupils get their homework per internet from their teachers. Another different aspect at schools in Latvia is that the pupils don´t have to come to all the lessons. They only have to be at school for a particular number of lessons. For some other lessons the attendance is not required, is just optional.
All in all, I can summarize that this week was a totally new and wonderful experience for me.

English abstract

My name is Matthäus Rzasa, I am 15 years old and I took part in the “Erasmus+, Fit for job” project, which is funded by the European Union.
My career wish, is to become a teacher. Most of my strengths are suitable for this job. My strengths and favourite subjects at school are English, music and mathematics. As to that, I’m also very interested in meeting new people from foreign countries and getting to know each other. I am a very open-minded person, who likes to talk or to hold speeches in front of a big crowd. I can do this because I have got much self-confidence.
Now I am going to tell you more about the project and its purpose. We have in our school a so-called “BoGy” (Berufsorientierung am Gymnasium) subject, which is a kind of career orientation programme. We have two lessons per week and altogether nine lessons a year. The leader of the project is one of our teachers, Mrs. Widmann. She is the contact person for every student regarding the career orientation. We have a big opportunity to learn a lot about jobs and about university studies before leaving school. There are lots of agencies, which we are visiting together, for instance the BIZ (Berufsinformationszentrum). Joining our BoGy lessons with the Erasmus+ Project, was a very good idea. In 2014, Mr. Lange presented us the project. We’ve got the information, the conditions and everything else we needed to know. So I applied for this project, and I was accepted.
The project has two main parts. The first part is the exchange with the three participating countries, Latvia, Italy and Germany. We had to take part in presentations, guided tours and also different activities. There were tasks we had to solve together, like finding out what our strengths are. Basically, it was all about career orientation, and how can we find out more about us, and which job fits to us. But it was more than just career orientation. The exchange with another country, showed us a completely different way of living and culture. As to that, we had to speak a lot of English, what improved our English skills massively. We have also tried to learn some Italian and Latvian, but it was very hard. The second part of the project consist of writing reports. My report is about the basic information of this project and my impressions. We have to show here how the exchanges, but especially the whole project helped us in the career orientation and finding our strengths. I think it was good, and I would take part in lots of
other projects like this. It was very interesting and formative. To sum up the project, it was very helpful for our future life, and it has a big perspective.
Getting to know other people and their culture, including the practising of English is a very nice idea. I would always take again part in this kind of project.

English abstract

Hello, my name is Marie Pirker. I am a sixteen year old girl from Germany and I go to school at Progymnasium Altshausen. I am a member of the Erasmus+ team and I was in Cento in year 2016. There I took part in many activities and I really learned a lot.

First of all, we started at our school with BOGY (job orientation lessons) to find out what we want to become or to do later, in the future. During these lessons we have tried to find out our weak and strong points, we analysed our hobbies and free time activities to know what we are good at, we checked the responsibilities you must take to get  a good job, and so on.

One day I want to become a lawyer. I am good at debating, convincing and negotiating and I want to protect other people. This job suits me for the reason that you must fight for justice, you are always needed, you can make the world a better place and you have a lot of possibilities to practice this job.
During our visit in Cento we  learned a lot about the Italian culture and history. We visited old cities and churches, at Ducati and Ferrari plants we found out how important good teamwork is, but also what the management of a company actually means.

All in all, it was a really interesting week with many valuable experiences.

Form 10, Progymnasium Altshausen

English abstract

My name is Lea-Sophie Niederer and I am in form 10 at Progymnasium Altshausen. I participated in the Erasmus+ programme which is funded by the European Union.

My career plan is to become a doctor or a lawyer. The career guidance at our school helped me a lot to decide my future profession, because I didn´t really know what I want to become later.

It started in class 8 when we had to lead our pupils' company “firma8”. In this year we also visited a few firms in our town like the Volksbank Altshausen, the Stadler Anlagenbau GmbH etc., trying to get ideas about different jobs.

Then, in class 9, we did a lot of tests in our BOGY-lessons to find out about our interests, skills and strengths. We got a few questionnaires with characteristics and we had to mark the ones that suited us best. After having learned how to apply on jobs, we were offered the opportunity to do a work placement, which I spent in a dental clinic. This placement helped me the most in my orienteering process, because I have learned very much about a doctor's job.

At the moment I plan to do another work placement in a clinic for sports injuries, as I think this area of medicine is the most interesting one.

With the Erasmus+ project I went to Cento in February 2016. There we visited the Ducati´s Plants in Bologna, the Ferrari museum and we also went to Ravenna. The most interesting part was, in my opinion, the workshop at the Ferrari museum where we were allowed to simulate a pit-stop. Of course we also had a lot of fun with our exchange partners, and so even the work turned into a really diverting part of the week.

During the exchange I have also learned a lot about the Italian culture, the school system and their job orienteering concept. This project helped me a lot to improve my English and last but not least, I have found new international friends.

All in all, it was a really nice week and I would definitely join the project again if I had the chance.

Form 10, Progymnasium Altshausen

English Abstract

My name is Julie Hensler, I am 15 years old and I am a pupil at Progymnasium Altshausen. I take part in the project Erasmus+ which is funded by the European Union. The one reason, why I applied for this project, was that I really love travelling and I think it is really important to get in contact with people from other countries. The other reason is that I actually have almost no idea what I want to do later. My favourite subjects are history, physics, sometimes maths, and biology. We still have a job orientation concept at school which takes place in Year 9 mainly. In this year the pupils do different activities: for example a kind of Job Shadowing Day where the students can visit different companies in our town (Altshausen). Another important point is the visit to the Job Centre (BiZ)at Ravensburg. In this facility the students get the opportunity to make a test to check their strengths. Apart from this,  they can to do a work placement in a company of their choice. In my opinion, this is one of the most precious module in our career orientation concept. I have made my work experience in a law office. It was really interesting for me, but I found out that a job in an office is not the right thing for me. In addition to that, there´s in Year 8 a company called Firma8. The students have to develop a business plan in small groups, and then they have to implement it. Most famous things are for example the sale of olive oil or self-made apple juice.  If you ask me, this was the most helpful and interesting thing in the whole BoGy lessons. I have learnt there very much about business and how to sell a product.

In my exchange week in Riga we were able to go to many companies. We were at the airport and could take a look ,,back stage´´. I would have never expected that in an airport have to work so many people and that there´s such a complex structure of organisation. Moreover, we visited the training centre for pilots of the company airBaltic. We got there much information and we were allowed to execute an emergency exercise in a plane-simulator.

The thing that helped me most in my career orientation was the visit to the Medical Faculty at the University of Latvia. We could see the places where the students could train their first-aid skills. Now I know that my job should be something considering biology and medicine.

Generally, I think it´s really important to keep contact with people in other countries. In my week in Latvia, I lived in a host family, so I had the opportunity to see very much of the Latvian culture. I could improve my English skills and saw that I am able to make normal conversation in English.

Finally, I want to say that this project was really helpful for my career orientation and improved also my communicative skills in English. I am grateful to our teachers who have made such a project possible at our small school. This project represents a great idea of the European Union. Everybody who gets the chance to take part in such a project should embrace it.

Form 10, Progymnasium Altshausen

English Abstract

Hello, my name is Martin Grünvogel and I am 16 years old. I live in Königseggwald, a small village near Ravensburg. I was very lucky to be able to take part at the Erasmus+ project “fit for job” and I only can recommend such an  exchange to everyone who is interested in something like that. My report is about  my two dream jobs, banker and retailer. The next points are my personal assets, which I have found out by doing  a lot of different tests and analysis. The third headline is about the different education for the  jobs I would like to do. You can read there how long the education takes and what kind of things you have to do. Furthermore you can look at what kind of things I have already done to find out more about which job is the most suitable one for me. An example is the internship or the  job fair in Ravensburg, where you can inform yourself about jobs an things  you  are interested in. After this you can find the activities and the modules that I am going to do in the future to become sure about the right profession for me. Also I have written down what kind of activities and modules are the most important ones for me and which of them I  think  less  important. But in return I also have registered the things I have missed for my preparation. After all these points there is a report about the exchange week in Riga. I have documented  our Thursday. On this day we were at first at Mežaparks, then in Daugava at the forestry building, where we were told  something about a forester’s  job, after that we went to Ogre in the deer park and in the end we had some free time in the city of Riga and at the Baltic Sea. At the end of my report I am giving a review about my week in Riga as well as a statement  about my linguistical progress and my intercultural experiences during that week.
At the end I only can say that the whole time in Latvia was really awesome. Particularly for my job orientation the week was very good because we did a lot of activities where I  found out more about myself and several professions. But  I  found out a lot about the country Latvia, too. The people there are very hospitable and nice and although Latvia is a European country there are many differences to Germany, which I didn’t expect. All in all I can say that the whole project was a raving success and if there is another opportunity I will do something like this again.

Form 10, Progymnasium Altshausen

English Abstract

My name is Alicia Grüneberg and I am in form 10 now. I am a participant at the Erasmus+ project which is financially supported by the EU. The project is called “Fit for Job“, which is about orientation to career and studies.
There are lots of activities for career orientation at my school, especially in Form 8 and 9. By doing all these activities I found out that in my future I would love to do something connected with theatre, like theatre pedagogy or stage direction. During our career orientation process we do many activities to find out our strengths and skills. Some of my strengths and skills are that I am good at working in a team but sometimes I prefer working alone, too. I am a creative person full of new ideas. In the future, I plan to do some more work placements and holiday work to get in touch with different jobs.
Throughout the project I got the chance to go to Riga (capital city of Latvia). I really enjoyed staying there at school and at my host family. The program, under the main topic `career orientation`, was many-sided indeed. I really liked it because it provided us an insight of different fields and areas like the airport or the Latvian university system. Now I can say that I really improved my English skills and found out more about different jobs and ways of educationin different areas of work.

Form 10, Progymnasium Altshausen

English abstract

My name is Daniel Gräfenstein and I am 16 years old. I am a pupil at Progymnasium Altshausen. Our headmaster and Mrs. Widmann presented us the project Erasmus+ “Fit-for-job” one year ago. It is part of our job orientation programme at PG. At school we had  job orientation lessons called BOGY  in form 9 with Ms Widmann. We are very thankful for her help in our job orientation process. In these lessons we found out about how to write a job application, a curriculum vitae and what our strengths are. What I found out abo mine is that I am reliable, I am quick at learning and I am patient. Later on I want to be an engineer because I am really interested in Maths, Physics, English and engineering. My interests fit to the engineering subjects. We also did a work placement for one week during the school term, where we had to apply and choose a firm on our own. I intend to do more of these work placements because, in my opinion, they are helpful.

I applied for this project because I had no idea what I wanted to do in my future. After this project, I know that engineering is what I really want to do. I was always interested in cars so I love the idea of constructing cars. As I have learned many things about the job orientation in Germany, I also wanted to know more about international job orientation projects. I decided to visit Latvia. During this exchange week, in April 2016, I found out a lot about Latvia itself and the daily routine of Latvian students. A normal day at school is much longer than ours. We had guided tours around universities and firms that work with wood, because wood is the most important export good of Latvian industry. The host family was polite and really nice, too. Generally, Latvian people are polite and hospitable. I learned a lot about the culture and job orientation of Latvia.  That is why I do not regret at all that I applied for this project.

In September 2016, I will attend high school and if there is a similar project, like the Erasmus +, I will apply for it on my own.

My name is Lara Gabriel and I really enjoyed my exchange week, which I spent in Cento, Italy.

Later on I would like to become a teacher or a reporter. Both jobs are offering good opportunities. It was a hard way to find out what I would like to do in the future. Yet, it is very important to know in young days which way you are going to choose. Some activities at school like the work experience placement and visiting the job centre  in Ravensburg helped me a lot with my decision.

My exchange week was really fun and helped to improve  my social and language skills. The week was full of Italian cultural events and great experiences which I will never forget.

In brief, the Erasmus project “Fit for Job” which is funded by the EU, was successful and it met its targets, especially getting to know a foreign culture, new people and learning how to improve  job orientation programmes  for adolescent nowadays.
